AI is your new HR partner, not a threat

Writing for ET HR World, Zinnia India's Head of People, Surabhi Sharma, makes the case that generative AI is turning HR from an administrative function into a genuine strategic partner — but not by replacing the people in the room.
Where the Shift Is Most Visible
She walks through where the shift is most visible: recruitment, where bias-aware screening and AI-assisted outreach are making hiring faster without making it less personal; learning and development, where static training programs are giving way to adaptive journeys shaped by each employee's needs; and performance management, where real-time, AI-surfaced feedback is replacing the once-a-year review. In each area, her argument is the same — AI can widen what HR sees and speed up how it responds, but the judgment calls still belong to people.
Guardrails, Not Bolt-Ons
That puts new demands on HR itself. Sharma argues tomorrow's HR leader doesn't need to code, but does need real fluency in how AI systems reach their conclusions, plus a stronger hand on data ethics, governance, and change management as AI becomes embedded in day-to-day decisions. Her closing point is really about guardrails: empathy, trust, and fairness have to be designed into AI-enabled HR from the start, not bolted on after the fact.
AI won't replace HR professionals, but HR professionals who use AI effectively will lead the way.
